Installation & Operation
  • Wafer installation: Center the valve between flanges. Use flange bolts of correct length and grade. Tighten bolts evenly in a cross pattern to specified torque.
  • Lug installation: Bolt directly to one flange for dead-end service. Use full-face gaskets on both sides of the valve.
  • Disc positioning: Install with the disc slightly open (5–10°) to protect the liner from compression damage during flange tightening.
  • Gear actuator: The self-locking mechanism holds position. Do not force the gear beyond the mechanical stop.
  • Line velocity: For abrasive media, limit velocity to 2 m/s. For clean fluids, up to 5 m/s is acceptable.
  • Periodic operation: Cycle the valve quarterly to prevent seat sticking in low-use applications. Apply grease to the gear mechanism annually.
Critical Restrictions
  • Do not exceed 60°C for UPVC bodies. CPVC max 93°C continuous. Do not exceed liner temperature rating.
  • Not rated for steam service. Avoid rapid thermal cycling and sudden pressure surges.
  • Do not use EPDM liner with hydrocarbon solvents, oils, or strong oxidizing agents.
  • PTFE liner has limited abrasion resistance — not recommended for high-solids slurries.
  • Avoid operating the valve continuously in the 5–85% open range with abrasive media.
  • Protect valve body from direct UV exposure. Use UV-stabilized material or apply protective coating.
  • Do not exceed the maximum pressure differential across the disc at the operating temperature.
Troubleshooting Guide
▶ Gear actuator difficult to turn
Liner swelling or disc binding. Check media compatibility. Lubricate gear mechanism with recommended grease. If resistance persists, inspect liner for swelling or deformation.
▶ Leakage at flange connection
Bolts may require retorquing. Check torque values — typically 20–35 Nm depending on size. Verify gasket surfaces are clean. Replace liner if flange face is damaged.
▶ Leakage past disc in closed position
Inspect liner for wear or deformation at the disc seating area. Replace liner if worn. For PTFE liners, check for cold flow deformation at elevated temperatures.
▶ Position indicator not aligned
Recalibrate the position indicator on the gear actuator. Ensure the disc is fully closed before adjusting. Verify gear mechanism backlash is within acceptable limits.

UPVC (unplasticized polyvinyl chloride) and CPVC (chlorinated polyvinyl chloride) gear butterfly valves are widely used in many industries due to their excellent corrosion resistance, lightweight design and economy, including safe drinking water, metallurgy, photovoltaics, nuclear power, electronic semiconductors, medicine, industrial water treatment, industrial wastewater and other fields.
